Musk Wants AI To “Make Games Great Again”

Tesla & X CEO Elon Musk, who reportedly set a world record in “Diablo IV” recently according to Forbes, has set his sights on the video game industry.

A social media user today posted a tweet complaining about game developers and game journalism being “so ideologically captured”, saying that gamers “have always rejected dumb manipulative bs” and so “why lean into it?”.

After a social media user tweeted about the “manipulative bs” of game development, Elon Musk said he’d be starting an AI gaming studio.

Musk retweeted the user’s message, but added an announcement in his post saying: “Too many game studios that are owned by massive corporations. xAI is going to start an AI game studio to make games great again!”

This follows on from a comment last month he gave during a Q&A session when an audience member complained about gaming platforms “prioritizing pronouns”.

He responded by floating the idea to “start a gaming studio” as he says “I do actually, intrinsically, love video games” and thinks you could make “an incredible video game” with AI.

AI is already used throughout modern gaming, primarily for enemy combat systems, and can be used to strong effect in gaming (eg. “Alien Isolation”). We’ve yet to see a major release game fully written and developed by AI.

No mention is made of other issues with gaming of recent years – the incessant push for microtransactions, live-service games, and unnecessarily sprawling open world/semi-RPG titles that take far too long to develop.
