TV mega-producer Ryan Murphy says that actor Ewan McGregor is set to deliver some of his best work ever in the upcoming Netflix limited series “Halston” which Murphy is producing.
Speaking to Collider, Murphy discussed the long-in-development limited series about the tumultuous life and career of famed designer with McGregor taking on the role for a five-episode run with Daniel Minahan (“American Crime Story,” “Deadwood: The Movie,” “Game of Thrones”) directing.
It seems he has nothing but praise for the “Birds of Prey” and “Star Wars” actor:
“I think it’s one of those roles, it’s one of the greatest roles of Ewan McGregor’s career and he’s just extraordinary in that part. And it’s a hard part, and he has spent a lot of time on it, on the voice, on the look, on everything. I mean, he’s such an incredibly disciplined actor who likes to do a lot of research. I think it’s one of the great roles of his career.”
Murphy also says the series won’t hold anything back, in fact it’s the kind of series that couldn’t be made until very recently because it pushes so many boundaries:
“I don’t think it could have been made five, six years ago. It’s very graphic. It’s very inside about the fashion world, but it’s also about the struggles, and what it takes to be successful and what you have to lose to get there. And it’s also a cautionary tale about fame and drugs and sex, but Ewan is just so mesmerizing in that part, as I think you can tell. But it’s going to be something, I’ll tell you.”
Netflix has yet to set a release date for “Halston” which began production shortly before the coronavirus pandemic hit and shut everything down. The series also stars Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher, Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Rebecca Davan as Else Peretti, David Pittu as Joe Eula, Sullivan Jones as Ed Austin, and Gianfranco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo.
