Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” clocks in at three hours – making it his longest film to date. Don’t expect it to get any longer when it comes to home video.
Launching to rave reviews, ,”Oppenheimer” has crossed the $400 million mark at the worldwide box office and is still currently playing in cinemas around the world right now.
Nolan famously doesn’t really do extended or director’s cuts of his movies, and rarely incorporates deleted scenes in home video releases. There’s good reason for this according to actor Cillian Murphy.
The star of the film tells Collider that no deleted scenes from the movie exist:
“There’s no deleted scenes in Chris Nolan movies. That’s why there are no DVD extras on his movies because the script is the movie. He knows exactly what’s going to end up – he’s not fiddling around with it trying to change the story. That is the movie.”
As Nolan shoots on film, he approaches shoots knowing exactly what he needs to capture, which explains why there are very few deleted scenes.
In previous interviews, he says he’s aware he “always disappoints the DVD crowd”. Eagle-eyed fans have been able to piece together short lists of deleted or alternate takes for a few of his films thanks to making-of books, documentaries, interviews and VFX sample reels. Even in those cases, they’re very short lists.
