Toho is officially moving forward on sequels to the two major films of the Reiwa era of the “Godzilla” franchise – “Shin Godzilla” and Oscar-winner “Godzilla Minus One”.

Bloomberg reports that the “Godzilla Minus One” follow-up is already filming in Japan with director Takashi Yamazaki returning to helm, write and handle the visual effects duties.

The title boasts a bigger budget and larger scale with the big action sequences slated to begin filming next month. It’s expected that this will be a direct continuation with further development of the central characters.

Toho hasn’t set a release date, but this report suggests the film could arrive as early as late 2026.

Meanwhile the report confirms that another “Shin Godzilla” is in the works follwoing the 2016 reimagining of the franchise which put the emphasis on political satire, skewering crisis management and government inefficiency with a grounded approach to the giant lizard arriving in modern Japan.

It remains the most successful Godzilla movie in Japan to date with $78 million made in the country.

A third film is also said to be in the works at Toho, an original story that focuses on one of his many adversaries.

These will come on top of both the already wrapped second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” due out next year on Apple TV+ along with Legendary delivering a new MonsterVerse installment with “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova” on March 26th 2027.
