Amazon Prime is set to expand its “Bosch” property into a larger franchise with two more spin-offs in the works.
Amazon’s longest-running original series, the original “Bosch” was well-reviewed and a consistent performer that adapted Michael Connelly’s novels into a modern L.A. detective noir with a relaxed pacing and strong performances.
Amazon opted to end the show in mid-2021, but Titus Welliver’s lead character of Hieronymus ‘Harry’ Bosch was transferred to the first spin-off series “Bosch: Legacy” along with his daughter (played by Madison Lintz) and Mimi Rogers’ lawyer character Honey Chandler.
That show premiered on FreeVee and quickly scored itself a second season renewal. Now, Amazon plans to bring back at least one other core character from the original series – Jamie Hector’s Detective Jerry Edgar who will lead his own series.
In the series, Josh’s former partner is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past..
In addition, another spin-off is also planned focusing on the yet-to-be cast LAPD Detective Renee Ballard, a key character in Connelly’s novels that hasn’t made it to screen as yet. In her show, Ballard is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division – solving cases in unconventional ways and navigating L.A. politics as she tries to do right by her retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch.
Both projects are in the development stage and it’s not clear if these will be developed for Amazon Prime, Freevee, or both. It follows on from several other series of late making big franchise plans including Showtime with “Dexter” and “Billions,” and Amazon with “The Terminal List”.
