Mulgrew Thanks Fans For “Prodigy” Return

Paramount+

Following the news earlier today that Netflix had acquired the animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” after its cancellation on the Paramount+ service, several of those involved have spoken about it.

In the wake of the show’s cancellation and removal from the service in June as part of cost-cutting measures, fans quickly rallied to organise campaigns in support of the show.

This included a GoFundMe campaign that resulted in a plane flying over the offices of several streamers, including Netflix, back in August.

Now, with the already-aired first season and the still unaired second season all comfy in their new home at Netflix, executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman have thanked fans for their efforts. In a joint statement, they say:

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together. We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”

Kate Mulgrew reprises her live-action role of “Star Trek: Voyager” captain Kathryn Janeway in the series along with appearing as a hologramatic version of herself. She also released a posting on social media that said:

“I’ve always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world. They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again”

Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Rylee Alazraqui, Angus Imrie, Jason Mantzoukas and Dee Bradley Baker voice the characters in the series which will see the first season return to streaming later this year. The still-to-air second season will be released sometime in 2024.
