Streaming service MUBI have announced they will release Xavier Dolan’s “Matthias & Maxime” on August 28th across the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (excluding Mexico), and India. Dolan, Gabriel D’Almeida Freitas, Harris Dickinson, Anne Dorval and Pier-Luc Funk star.
The story follows two childhood best friends who are asked to share a kiss for the purposes of a student short film. Soon, a lingering doubt sets in, confronting both of them with their preferences, threatening the brotherhood of their social circle, and, eventually, changing their lives.
The film follows on from Dolan’s English-language debut with “The Death & Life of John F. Donovan” which was widely panned. In contrast, ‘Matthias’ went back to Dolan’s early roots with a film more akin to his debut effort “I Killed My Mother” and scored good reviews.
