MTV Developing A “Clone High” Reboot

MTV Studios is developing a reboot of the short-lived cult classic adult animated sitcom “Clone High” which was co-created by “The LEGO Movie” directors and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Originally created by Lord, Miller and Bill Lawrence, the series follows prominent historical figures who have been cloned and placed in high school including Abraham Lincoln, Cleopatra, Joan of Arc and John F. Kennedy, amongst others.

The show was infamously pulled shortly after its debut as its portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi received widespread criticism from India. As ratings were low and reviews mixed, MTV pulled the plug – but it has since earned critical acclaim and garner a massive cult following.

Erica Rivinoja, a writer on the original series, will serve as showrunner and co-write the pilot alongside Lord and Miller. Though MTV is developing the reboot, it’s unclear if the network will air the series and so it could well end up on another one or a streaming service.
