“Mr. & Mrs. Smith” S2 Delayed Indefinitely

Production on a second season of Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has reportedly been delayed indefinitely.

Mark Eydelshteyn (“Anora”) and Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets”) were cast as the new “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” months ago. Then, in late March, the season scored a major tax credit from the California Film Commission to relocate to Los Angeles.

In the months that followed, numerous names were rumored for roles in the new run, including Lily-Rose Depp, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Now, Deadline reports that deals were never closed, and so plans for a Fall production start have been scrapped, with the new run on indefinite hold.

That delay could impact the show’s California tax incentive, as projects have to film within 18 months of getting awarded the credit.

The first season followed two lonely strangers (Donald Glover, Maya Erskine) who have to pose as a married couple as they both begin new careers as spies, taking on new aliases, Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith.

The season ended with the pair getting into a gunfight, leaving it unclear whether they survived. The new run was expected to include the pair at some point, but the show was primarily in an anthology format with a different story and largely different characters each season.
