Mr. Freeze Was In Affleck’s Scrapped “Batman”?

Before Warners and Matt Reeves gave the go-ahead for “The Batman” film and well before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC, Ben Affleck was lining up a solo Batman film.

At the time, Affleck was playing Bruce Wayne/Batman for Zack Snyder’s DCEU and was teaming with Geoff Johns to co-write a film which he would direct and star in.

Following the release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Affleck then stepped down from the director’s chair but still intended to star. Details of the project have been scant, other than Joe Manganiello’s Slade Wilson/Deathstroke would arrive in Gotham City to take down the Bat.

In 2024, a storyboard artist on the project unveiled a storyboard and said the project was “gonna cover something that had never really been covered in comics”.

Now, in postings on Reddit (via Yahoo) of an Instagram conversation with a veteran pre-vis artist from the project, it was revealed that while Deathstroke was the main villain there would’ve been several others as well.

In particular, they say the “Mr. Freeze scenes were my favourite” and were “a very small part, but SO good”. They say Freeze’s scenes were “more than a cameo,” calling them “beautiful and haunting,” and that the film heavily involved Arkham Asylum, which is how there would be multiple villain cameos.

The project mostly fell apart after “Justice League” and in 2019, it effectively went away as Robert Pattinson was announced as the new Batman.
