Emmy and Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss (“Us,” “The Invisible Man”) has joined the cast of filmmaker Barry Levinson’s planned feature about the making of the first “The Godfather” film in the 1970s.

The project is based on a Blacklist screenplay by Andrew Farotte which has been re-developed by Levinson who will direct and produce.

The movie stars Oscar Isaac as the film’s director Francis Ford Coppola and Jake Gyllenhaal as famed producer Robert Evans who argued heavily over the film’s gestation. Despite all the behind-the-scenes drama, the film became a major critical and box office success.

Moss will play Eleanor Coppola, Francis’ wife. The project isn’t to be confused with “The Offer,” a Paramount+ TV series also dealing with the same subject matter but centered on another producer. That project had Armie Hammer attached as lead star until he recently exited.

Moss is currently in production on the fourth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and will be seen later this year in Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” and Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins”.
