Viggo Mortensen is set to both star in and direct the Western love story “The Dead Don’t Hurt” co-starring Vicky Krieps.
Set in the 1860s, Krieps plays French Canadian woman Vivienne who embarks on a relationship with Mortensen’s Danish immigrant Holger Olsen.
The pair travel to the quiet town of Elk Flats, but The Civil War separates them and leaves her at the mercy of a ruthless rancher, his wayward son, and a corrupt mayor.
When Olsen returns, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the people they have become. Solly McLeod, Danny Huston, Garret Dillahunt, Tom Bateman, Lance Henriksen and W. Earl Brown co-star.
Several crew members from Mortensen’s 2020 directorial debut “Falling” return including cinematographer Marcel Zyskind, production designer Carol Spier, art director Jason Clarke, and costume designer Anne Dixon.
Filming begins next week in Ontario and British Columbia in Canada with additional shooting to take place in Durango, Mexico.
