The marketing team behind the upcoming “Mortal Kombat” sequel are going all in on Karl Urban’s new role in the film as the current franchise iteration’s version of classic ‘Kombat’ character Johnny Cage.
Ed Boon, co-creator of the property, has shared a movie poster for the fictional in-universe movie titled “Uncaged Fury” starring Cage. The art evokes 1990s action film posters and VHS covers.
In addition, a fake IMDb listing for Johnny Cage has emerged showing a breakdown of the character’s career with the martial arts champion and action star’s famous roles being in movies like “Uncaged Fury,” “Hard to Cage,” and “Rebel Without a Cage”.
The retro-style campaign has so far been received fairly warmly with a lot of love for the retro styling. Adding to the excitement, producer Todd Garner has confirmed on X that the first trailer for “Mortal Kombat II” will arrive within the next two weeks.
New to the sequel alongside Urban as Cage is Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, CJ Bloomfield as Baraka and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Both Josh Lawson’s Kano and Max Huang’s Kung Lao return for the sequel despite their character deaths in the first film, while other returnees include Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Noob Saibot and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.
“Mortal Kombat II” is slated to open in cinemas on October 24th 2025.
