A new report has emerged in the past day indicating “Star Wars” alum Temuera Morrison may be returning to the franchise following his stints as Jango Fett and, more recently, leading “The Book of Boba Fett” series.
One Take News (via SW News Net) is reporting that Morrison will return in the upcoming “Ahsoka” series on Disney+ as the first live-action version of the character Captain Rex.
Rex was considered one of the best soldiers in the Grand Army of the Republic and served alongside Ashoka. He was also one of the few clones that resisted the infamous Order 66 after Ahsoka removed his inhibitor chip.
He appeared in multiple animated projects, including “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” and “Star Wars: Rebels”. Dee Bradley Baker voiced the character across all those shows.
The “Ahsoka” series is expected to be set around the same time as “The Mandalorian” – almost eight years after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” by which time the Rex character will be a chronological age of 44 and a biological age/appearance of a man well into his 80s (Morrison is 62).
Morrison’s potential casting has not yet been confirmed, and if true, it’s still not clear whether Morrison will be playing a “current” version of Rex or if he will appear only in flashbacks.
“Ahsoka” is being written by Dave Filoni and will feature Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Wes Chatham in an undisclosed role, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
“Ahsoka” is set to premiere on the Disney+ service in August.
