The rosy future for “Lucifer” is now in jeopardy due to a brewing contract dispute involving series star Tom Ellis.
Back in February came word that Netflix informed Warner Bros. that it was interested in extending the show’s lifespan beyond the previously announced fifth and ‘final’ season due later this year.
Within two weeks the studio closed new deals with co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson. The contract options for Lucifer‘s supporting cast are all expected to be picked up pending a deal with Ellis, and all parties have indicated that they want to return.
Now though, TV Line says according to multiple sources the re-negotiations between Ellis and Warner Bros. Television for a potential sixth season have come to a standstill after the actor allegedly rejected the studio’s latest offer.
Ellis already has a sixth season deal in place, so depending on circumstances his failure to honor the existing deal could put him in breach of contract. Warner Bros. TV has, per sources, gone back and “sweetened the pot” but it hasn’t worked. Their source says: “Everyone wants Tom to be happy, but there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.”
