More details are emerging about the “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series out of the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London following not just the panel for the show but little bits from post-panel interviews.
The series follows Anakin Skywalker’s Togruta padawan Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). Set in the wake of her live-action appearances in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett,” the series also serves as a follow-up to the animated “Star Wars Rebels”.
Filoni was also asked at the event what episodes those who haven’t watched the ‘Rebels’ should watch from the show in order to prepare for the upcoming live-action “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series.
He tells Collider if one had to pick a single episode starting point, it would be “Jedi Night,” but the best suggestion he has is to start with the show’s fourth season.
That will bring you up to speed with the various characters in “Ahsoka” as Filoni tells Variety this will “definitely” be a continuation of the animated series:
“These characters are in really different places in their lives. There is an aspect to the hero’s journey that is very lonely. You sacrifice a lot when you’re out there fighting the good fight.
It’s going to be really beautiful and revelatory to see the things that can happen when you work in a community, when you find those relationships and the people that you can trust.”
Filoni is one of the numerous directors on the series and confirms he has directed more than one episode but wouldn’t say how many he helmed. He won’t reveal how many episodes the show will consist of but does confirm to Collider he has written all of them.
He adds that episode runtimes will be about on par with “The Mandolorian” and maybe “a little longer” on average. They’re still finishing the episodes, so there are no set runtimes yet, but Filoni says he has no problem with episodes going long so long as it doesn’t impact the pacing.
Whilst Johnson also hasn’t said anything about a second season, there’s no indication this was designed as a limited series (ala. “Obi-Wan Kenobi”) and thus could score a renewal.
“Star Wars: Ahsoka” is set to premiere on Disney+ in August.
