Screen siren Monica Bellucci is in negotiations to join the cast of the “Beetlejuice” sequel at Warner Bros. Pictures. Bellucci will reportedly play Beetlejuice’s wife.
The project is locking down its cast members ahead of filming commencing later this month. Jenna Ortega will lead the cast, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the obnoxious bio-exorcist ‘ghost with the most’.
Winona Ryder is also back as Ortega’s mother, and Catherine O’Hara is returning as Ortega’s grandmother. Justin Theroux is also on board the project.
Tim Burton returns to the director’s chair for the film, which will be released September 6th 2024 – a release slot alongside Marvel’s “Blade” which last week shut down preproduction due to the writer’s strike. “Blade” is likely to be delayed from that slot.
Burton and Brad Pitt’s Plan B are producing whilst “Wednesday” and “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay. Bellucci can currently be seen opposite Toni Collette in “Mafia Mamma”.
Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones and Glenn Shadix starred in the original film alongside Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara. It grossed $80 million from a $15 million budget and is often considered one of Burton’s most iconic films.
