Warner Bros. Pictures has shaken up its release calendar a bit today with some high-profile adjustments to its schedule.
Two Jason Momoa-led films are getting new dates. First, James Wan’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” sequel will now open five days earlier on December 20th instead of Christmas Day.
The shift raises eyebrows as it means Warners now intends to release both the DC Comics adaptation and its Timothee Chalamet-led musical “Wonka” in the same week.
In addition, the “Minecraft” starring Momoa and directed by “Napoleon Dynamite” filmmaker Jared Hess, has been set for a theatrical release on April 4th 2025.
Next up, the studio has pulled its “The Wizard of Oz” animated film “Toto” from the schedule. That film was to open on February 2nd 2024 and is now being replaced by Barry Levinson’s “The Wise Guys” starring Robert DeNiro in dual roles.
The moves follow on from some other date announcements this week, with Disney+ setting its McKenna Grace-led film “Crater” for a May 12th debut, Gravitas Ventures setting the Abel Ferrara-directed and Shia LaBeouf-led drama “Padre Pio” for a day-and-date release on June 2nd, and Peacock also setting the young LeBron James film “Shooting Stars” for June 2nd.
