Mikkelsen Still Ready For Hannibal Return

NBC

Mads Mikkelsen is back on the big screen later this month, playing the villain opposite Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”.

It continues a busy few years for the actor following acclaim for his work in “Another Round” and “Riders of Justice” and taking over the Gellert Grindelwald role for “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”.

One of his most famous roles, eight years on, remains that of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in NBC’s acclaimed three-season long series from Bryan Fuller.

The wildly inventive drama based on the Thomas Harris novels has garnered a cult following and has gone on to regularly be listed not just amongst the best horror TV series but as one of the greatest network TV series of all time.

For years there’s been a push to revive the property, so would Mikkelsen return to the role? Speaking with Deadline at the “Indiana Jones” premiere the other day in Los Angeles, the actor says he’s ready to go, but they’re running out of time:

“There’s always a chance. It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait 20 years, but in the next couple of years, if somebody finds a home, I think we are all ready to take it up again”

The comments follow on from similar ones from co-star Hugh Dancy earlier this year where he said they “may literally just age out of” the chance to take it up. Unfortunately, in an era of streaming belt-tightening, he may be right.
