Mike Flanagan’s “Midnight Mass” Begins Shoot

Production has officially begun on “Midnight Mass,” the latest collaboration between Netflix and “Doctor Sleep” filmmaker Mike Flanagan.

Flanagan previously directed both deaf thriller “Hush” and the Stephen King adaptation “Gerald’s Game” for the streamer and then served as director/showrunner of their acclaimed “The Haunting of Hill House” series adaptation.

A follow-up to that series, titled “The Haunting of Bly Manor” which is based on Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw,” was already shot from September to February and will debut sometime later this year on the service.

Flanagan meanwhile has signed up for two more Netflix event series, the first titled “Midnight Mass”. The story is set on an isolated island community which experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.

Originally slated to begin shooting after ‘Bly Manor’ this past Spring in Vancouver, it was announced in March that they would delay production due to the global pandemic. The seven-episode horror series is now up and running again with Flanagan slated to direct all seven episodes.

Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Henry Thomas, Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, Matt Biedel, Alex Essoe, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Kristin Lehman, Igby Rigney and Annarah Shephard co-star while the series will be executive produced by Flanagan and Trevor Macy.
