Tom Cruise may be the biggest box-office star on the planet, but according to one Oscar nominee he’s “irrelevant”.
Former “The Wrestler” and “Angel Heart” star Mickey Rourke recently appeared on the “Piers Morgan Uncensored” program and slammed Cruise when he was asked about the billion-dollar grossing success of “Top Gun: Maverick”. Rourke responded:
“That doesn’t mean s— to me. [Tom Cruise has] been doing the same part for 35 effing years. I got no respect for that. I don’t care about money or power. I care about… when I when I watch Al Pacino or Christopher Walken working, or De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris and Ray Winstone, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like. A lot of guys that tried to stretch as actors.”
When asked if Cruise is a good actor, Rourke said: “I think he’s irrelevant.” The comments come as “Top Gun: Maverick” has scored not only some of the best review scores of the year but the biggest worldwide box office of the year to date.
Cruise isn’t slowing down as he has the two-part “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” arriving in 2023 and 2024. Rourke will soon be seen in Roman Polanski’s new film “The Palace”.
