After his “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” spin-off was unexpectedly axed, actor Michael Weatherly will return to the franchise’s flagship show for its twenty-fourth season.
Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo will be back for a season-long arc in the upcoming new season of “NCIS”. He played the role in the series for thirteen seasons, exiting as a series regular in 2016.
He and original cast member Cote de Pablo reunited in 2025 for “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” on Paramount+ and, despite fan support, the series was cancelled after one season.
The writers now have to take that show’s ending into account – the spin-off left Tony and Ziva together, raising a daughter and navigating life as fugitives. CBS has given no word of any involvement from de Pablo back in the mothership series.
Series regulars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole all reprise their roles when the series returns this fall.
The news comes as Mark Harmon has booked an extended arc on the prequel series “NCIS: Origins”. “NCIS: Sydney,” meanwhile, began production on its fourth season in early May.
