Filmmaker Michael Bay has exited the Will Smith-led action thriller “Fast and Loose” at Netflix, Bay jumping ship from the project on Wednesday.

According to Deadline, Bay and Smith were unable to bridge creative differences on the project. Tone appeared to be the issue with Bay wanting it to be more an action film and Smith more a comedy.

Smith plays a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.

Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson penned the script for the film, which was aiming to shoot in October. Netflix will now rush to find a filmmaker to replace Bay and hopefully maintain the planned schedule.

Bay is also now officially in talks to return to the “Transformers” franchise with a “new version of that tentpole” according to the trade.

Bay is also working on his film adaptation of the classic arcade game “OutRun” at Universal Pictures, which Jayson Rothwell is scripting. That project has been lined up to be a starring vehicle for Sydney Sweeney who has made headlines in recent weeks over an ad campaign.
