“X” and “Pearl” star Mia Goth is set to join Mahershala Ali in the “Blade” film at Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures.
The project is back on track after losing the film’s original director, Bassam Tariq, in September last year over creative differences right before filming was to begin in Atlanta.
“71” helmer Yann Demange came onboard in November with Emmy-nominated scribe Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us”) penning the script. Ali was reportedly personally involved in selecting the new writer with the intent to make the film dark and gritty in tone and amongst the edgier MCU fare.
That would also sound potentially more in line with the fondly remembered Wesley Snipes films. Snipes starred as the DayWalker who hunts down vampires across three movies from 1998 to 2004 with the first seen as the movie that truly began the comic book movie wave that dominates cinemas today.
Story details on this new take are unknown, as are those of the role Goth would be playing, whereas Ali is playing Blade and already voiced the role in a post-credits scene of Marvel Studios’ “Eternals”. Kevin Feige is producing. Goth is currently shooting the final installment of the “X” series titled “MaXXXine” which is currently filming.
