The “Mission: Impossible” franchise is all about huge set pieces, and now the currently in production seventh and eighth film are facing a challenge as plans to blow up a real century old bridge in Poland is being met with pushback from residents.
Filming on the large scale productions is expected to run for much of the next year with shooting kicking off in the UK. By April next year the shoot is expected to have arrived in Poland where a set piece is being filmed that will see the decommissioned and deteriorating Pilchowicki Bridge at least partly destroyed.
The decision has led to local protests, with hopes that the bridge could be protected and preserved as a historical monument. However others suggest both government revitalization funds and potential backing from the film production can be used to rebuild and restore the bridge to its former glory.
Christopher McQuarrie helms both of the new films which are scheduled to be released in November 2021 and 2022 respectively.
