MGM has picked up the rights to the in-the-works Jason Statham-led Miramax film project “The Beekeeper” from director David Ayer. Filming is due to begin in the UK in late September.
Kurt Wimmer (“Salt,” “Equilibrium”) penned the film that will follow a man’s campaign for vengeance after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.
MGM scored the theatrical distribution rights to the film in the United States, as well as a handful of international territories. MGM, Miramax and Statham all previously teamed on Guy Ritchie’s heist film “Wrath of Man”.
