MGM is reportedly developing “Drago,” a spinoff of the “Rocky” and “Creed” franchise, with Robert Lawton having been hired to pen the script.
Lawton penned the spec script “Becoming Rocky” about the making of the first film back in 1976 which impressed MGM executives. While that project isn’t moving forward, they have signed Lawson up for this.
The film will build out a backstory about Russian boxer Ivan Drago played by Dolph Lundgren in 1985’s “Rocky IV” and again in 2018’s “Creed II”.
It’s unclear if Lundgren or Florian Munteanu, who portrayed Ivan’s son Viktor, will reprise their roles in the spinoff. Plot specifics are under wraps.
The news comes as “Creed III” was also delayed today and will now open in March next year.
