Oscar-winner Olivia Colman will team up with “1917” and “Skyfall” helmer Sam Mendes for the love story “Empire of Light” at Searchlight.
The tale is set in and around a beautiful old cinema on the South Coast of England in the 1980s, but plot specifics are under wraps.
Mendes wrote the original script, marking his first solo outing as a screenwriter, and will direct the project with his usual collaborator Roger Deakins set to serve as cinematographer.
Pippa Harris will also produce. “Empire of Light” is targeting a Fall 2022 release.
