“The Blacklist” series regular Megan Boone is officially departing the long-running NBC show after eight seasons.
Boone has starred as the female lead character and FBI Agent Elizabeth Keene opposite James Spader’s infamous criminal Raymond Reddington since the show’s inception. Indeed the show’s central mystery throughout its run has surrounded the truth about her relationship with Reddington.
The decision about Boone’s exit, which was said to be a mutually agreed upon one, was made early on and well ahead of the show’s ninth season renewal in January.
As a result, the writers crafted a closing arc for her character throughout this season. Boone was absent for eight episodes in the first half of this season as the character was on the run, though returned to screens a few weeks ago. Her absence (which was in part due to personal reasons), sparked questions about her future on the show.
Boone will make her last appearance as a series regular in the upcoming eighth season finale next week with the two-parter kicking off this week finally set to “unpack answers to eight years worth of questions” says creator Jon Bokenkamp.
Boone’s exit leaves Spader, Diego Klattenhoff and Harry Lennix as the only original cast members on the series.
