McKinnon Set To Pen “Static Shock” Film

Randy McKinnon, the writer of the football drama “Safety” on the Disney+ service and creator of Hulu’s sports thriller “Wild Rabbit,” has been set to pen the feature adaptation of “Static Shock” at Warner Bros. Pictures and Outlier Society.

The original “Static” comic turned “Static Shock” animated series follows Virgil Hawkins, a teenager who transforms into a superhero who gains electromagnetic powers after being exposed to strange gas.

The series was noteworthy for being the rare animated show to be headlined by a Black character, and that version of the character joined the DC Comics universe in 2008.

Michael B. Jordan and Reginald Hudlin are producing the project which plans to build out a cinematic universe centered around black superheroes.
