Matthew McConaughey is set to star in the Kari Skogland-directed “Dallas Sting” for Skydance and Berlanti Schechter Productions.

“GLOW” duo Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch pen the fact-based film in which McConaughey will play Bill Kinder, the coach of a rag-tag group of soccer-playing Texas teenage girls.

In 1984, President Reagan made a concerted effort to open relations with China who invited America to send its U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to the first world championship they were holding for women’s soccer.

Trouble is, there was no such team at the time. A nationwide search led officials to this high school team who then took on the world’s top women’s teams from China, Australia and Italy.

Apple has an overall deal with Skydance and has first bite at the film which aims to begin production this Fall in New Orleans.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Robbie Rogers produce.
