Max’s “Harry Potter” Still In ‘Early Development’

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Discovery is betting big on its upcoming TV series reboot of the “Harry Potter” franchise with ambitious, multi-year plans for the series currently in the works at Max.

Announced back in April, the show has been dubbed a faithful version of the books with a whole new cast and CEO David Zaslav says the plan is to go for a full decade with this series.

The show will aim to adapt the world of the books in a much deeper way with all the extra runtime that a series can bring allowing for more explorations of side characters and plot threads the films had to gloss over.

David Heyman, a veteran producer of the films who is back for the show, recently spoke with Total Film and revealed that despite all the talk, the series is still very much in the early development stages:

“We haven’t even hired a writer to begin writing. It’s a bit early. But hopefully [it will be] something that’s very special, and gives us an opportunity to see the books, and to enjoy a series which explores the books more deeply.”

Thus it means the show is still a few years away from premiering and the ongoing strikes are only going to exacerbate that. The announcement of the series was not without its controversy due to the reported involvement of author J.K. Rowling as executive producer.

Details about the series are under wraps. Heyman will be out promoting the Timothee Chalamet-led “Wonka” movie later this year which he also produced.
