Max Set To Offer A Live Sports Tier

Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform Max is set to launch a new premium sports tier on October 5th – two days ahead of the Major League Baseball playoffs.

Dubbed the ‘Bleacher Report Sports Add-On’ (aka. B/R Sports) will cost an additional $9.99 per month on top of whatever your subscription price is for Max.

However, it’s going to be available for free during a promotional period that runs through the end of February – a period covering the MLB playoffs, and much of the NBA and NHL seasons.

WBD have rights to all three league’s games as well as NCAA March Madness basketball and U.S. National Team soccer. The promotional period ends as the NBA and NHL steer towards the playoffs and as NCAA March Madness basketball launches.

In an interesting admission, Warner Bros. Discovery’s global streaming and games CEO JB Perrette says the $10 montly additional pricing is being done for two reasons – long-term viability and to disincentivize the switch from pay-TV to streaming.

The company says it will stream more than 300 live games each year, as well as Bleacher Report live video content and library fare. The aim is to replicate what’s seen with many other streaming arrangements with sport – namely it’s sold as a separate add-on.
