Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” has soared to $548.6 million at the box-office globally in its first two weekends.
The second-weekend drop-off numbers have been so low as to be truly remarkable – the film’s offshore second-weekend haul fell just 20% to $81.7 million, whilst domestically its coming in ahead of expectations with a fall of just 32% to $86 million.
That’s the lowest domestic second-weekend drop ever of any film opening above $100 million. In other western markets, it is doing even better – in the UK it fell just 12% whilst in Australia it fell just 6%.
The film will shortly face competition however with “Jurassic World Dominion” which opened early this weekend in 15 smaller markets including Korea, Mexico and various South American countries.
‘Dominion’ is on track to take in $55.5 million through Sunday, and in Mexico it is coming in over 40% ahead of the debuts of the two prior “Jurassic World” films.
The new ‘Jurassic’ opens around much of the world, including the United States, this coming week and is expected to join its two predecessors with an over $1 billion box-office haul each.
