Matthew Perry Isn’t A Keanu Reeves Fan

Excerpts from Matthew Perry’s forthcoming memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing” has been published by The New York Post today and has raised several eyebrows.

In the book, the former “Friends” star reportedly makes two not-so-nice references towards Hollywood’s nicest guy Keanu Reeves. The big quote causing the ruckus from Perry is:

“Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

Both Reeves and Perry were friends with Phoenix, who died in front of the Viper Room from an overdose of cocaine and heroin. Of his death, Perry says:

“I heard the screaming from my apartment; went back to bed; woke up to the news. River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down.”

In another instance, Perry recalled the death of Chris Farley in 1997 at age 33 of an overdose, saying:

“I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”

The fixation on Reeves makes little sense as the pair have never worked together. This all follows in the wake of an excerpt last week in which Perry revealed his colon burst in 2018 due to his opioid addiction, and he nearly died during surgery.
