Beloved “The IT Crowd” and “What We Do In The Shadows” actor and comedy icon Matt Berry is in negotiations to star alongside “Aquaman” and “Fast X” star Jason Momoa in the movie adaptation of the video game sensation “Minecraft” for Warner Bros. Pictures.
“Napoleon Dynamite” helmer Jared Hess is directing the project for the studio but plot details and character details are under wraps. All that’s really known is that the film is targeting an April 4th 2025 release.
“Minecraft” is a sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios and released in 2011. It has since become the best-selling video game in history, with over 238 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players.
Players explore a blocky, procedurally generated, three-dimensional world with virtually infinite terrain and may discover and extract raw materials, craft tools and items, and build structures, earthworks, and machines.
Vertigo, Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft and On the Roam are all backing the project which will be produced by Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick.
Berry is known for many British comedy series including “Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace,” “The Mighty Boosh,” “Snuff Box” and “Toast of London” and has released nine studio albums.
