The last of Warner Bros. feature productions, Lana Wachowski’s fourth film in “The Matrix” franchise, has been put temporarily on hold in the wake of the coronavirus climate.
Dark Horizons was advised of this yesterday by sources who also broke word on “The Batman” stoppage here last week on DH several hours before it hit other outlets. However, upon asking Warners for confirmation yesterday before publishing, we received no response until just after 9am US-PST this morning advising us to wait for more information. Just over an hour later, Deadline broke the news and advised filming will resume at a later date. Should Warners respond to our original request with more information, it will be included here.
The delay follows on from other Warners productions also closing down over the weekend including the Will Smith-led “King Richard,” Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley movie, and the third “Fantastic Beasts” which was originally slated to begin shooting today but will be pushed back. It’s not clear how long the stoppage will be on any of these projects with 2-3 weeks being the common refrain at this point.
Warners isn’t the only one shutting down though as MGM’s Sylvester Stallone movie “Samaritan” is going on a minimum two-week hiatus in Atlanta, while early this morning came word that Sony’s new “Cinderella” is going on a two-week hiatus from its shoot at Pinewood Studios.
