Marvel’s “Wonder Man” May Get Trashed?

Warner Bros. Pictures

There’s little doubt that the biggest story of this week was Marvel Studios’ television division undergoing a bit of an intervention as those involved have realised their approach isn’t working and are opting for a more traditional route with showrunners, show bibles and creatives in charge.

This has resulted in the currently filming “Daredevil: Born Again” being completely overhauled despite having several episodes in the can, but what does it mean for the other series?

“Echo,” “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” and “Ironheart” already all finished filming prior to the actor’s strike. “Echo” seems locked for a January release and thus isn’t expected to undergo any changes.

Less certain is “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” or “Ironheart,” but a copyright listing discovered last week suggesting a late 2025 release for “Ironheart” would mean there is time for a potential overhaul there if they want to do one.

Now, in an interesting bit of timing, writer/author Joanna Robinson appeared on The Ringer’s The Watch podcast (via The Playlist) to promote her new book: “MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios” which released this week and involved her speaking with over 100 Marvel sources for the book.

During the appearance, she talked about the other Marvel series production that was halted by the strikes – the Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led “Wonder Man” event series which was created by “Shang-Chi” director Destin Daniel Cretton and “Hawkeye” consultant Andrew Guest.

She reportedly says she’s heard that the “Wonder Man” series may be scrapped but strongly cautions this is an unconfirmed rumor for now:

“Even after we heard about ‘Daredevil’, I’ve also heard again, The Watch scoop… that they are trashing the ‘Wonder Man’ project like there is a lot of stuff that is going to go in the can.”

Whether ‘trashing’ in this situation means fully scrapped, or starting over like “Daredevil: Born Again,” isn’t clear. Filming on the series began on April 5th but was shut down by the end of May. At last report the plan was to resume production after both strikes ended.
