Sony held its PlayStation showcase this morning, with the centerpiece being a ten-minute showing off of gameplay from Insomniac Games’ upcoming PS5 exclusive title “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” releasing this Fall.
In addition, a separate clip reveals Kraven the Hunter is a major character in the new game. The main clip sees Kraven’s goons in pursuit of Dr. Curt Connors, aka The Lizard, so it’s up to both Spider-Men – Peter Parker and Miles Morales – to stop them.
The clip confirms at one point, you’ll play as Peter’s Spider-Man after he’s obtained the Venom symbiote – and so can fight with Venom-style powers. You’ll seemingly play as Miles and Peter at different points throughout the game.
The graphics showcase a vastly improved lighting system and much better textures, tweaked and improved UI, new weapons, new traversal and new combat moves, and pulls off a huge action set piece over the ocean (not possible in the first), which feels very “Uncharted”-esque.
Confirmed to be a single-player-only game, the title picks up not long after the events of the first two games and is said to be a darker narrative than previous installments – primarily due to the presence of both Venom and Kraven.
Sony is only specifying a general Fall 2023 release date at this point.
