Cinematographer Brett Pawlak has reportedly been hired to serve as director of photography on Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ highly anticipated “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.
He’ll collaborate once again with director Destin Daniel Cretton after the pair previously worked together on Cretton’s 2013 drama “Short Term 12,” the 2019 legal drama “Just Mercy,” and the upcoming Marvel Studios “Wonder Man” TV series that Cretton executive produces.
Pawlak also worked on films like “The Glass Castle,” “Unicorn Store,” “We Are Your Friends,” and TV series like “Next” and “American Born Chinese”.
The cinematographer also has revealed a ‘mood board’ for the movie (see below), showing off artwork meant to convey the film’s tone and visual look. Two shots feature Hulk, but the overall look of the film is more akin to something like David Fincher’s “Zodiac” than the prior trilogy.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are penning the script for the new film that will once again feature Tom Holland reprising his role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are also expected to return, albeit in more limited capacities.
Jon Bernthal will reprise his role of Frank Castle/The Punisher in the film with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas also having roles. Filming is slated to get underway in August ahead of a July 31st 2026 release.
The news comes as Fathom Entertainment will hold 4K re-releases of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy in cinemas in the last weekend of September and first weekend of October, including the first time the extended cut of “Spider-Man 2” (dubbed “Spider-Man 2.1”) has been screened theatrically.
