“Marvels” Box-Office Projections Lowered

Opening weekend projections for Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels” film are going down, not up it seems.

Deadline reports that the film’s domestic opening weekend forecast, which was as high as $75-80 million a few weeks ago, has now dropped to $60 million with some suggesting it will be even lower.

That would put it considerably below 2021’s misfire “Eternals” and on par with 2015’s “Ant-Man” at $57.2 million.

Overseas projections are a little rosier with the film tracking for an $80 million debut which puts its global start at $140 million.

That again would be behind “Eternals” which had a $160 million debut and closer to “Black Widow” ($148 million) which was pandemic-impacted.

Pre-sales for the film are now at just over $5 million – putting it on par with DC flop “The Flash” this year which debuted to $55 million.

That’s a long way from four years ago when “Captain Marvel” had a strong debut of $154 million domestically.
