“Marvel’s Avengers” Game Gets Final Patch

Crystal Dynamics

One last final update for the “Marvel’s Avengers” game is now live, giving players full access to “nearly all” of the game’s content such as outfits, emotes, takedowns, and nameplates.

The update follows the news in January when developer Crystal Dynamics essentially admitted defeat after more than two years of trying and failing to find a sustainable audience for the game after stumbling even before launch.

The game has been continually criticized since its first gameplay trailer arrived at E3 2019. Reviews and sales were mediocre, and the player count plummeted even as new content kept being added.

From this update forwards, there will be no new stories, features, or Heroes (Spider-Man will remain a PlayStation exclusive in the game). The cosmetics marketplace is being turned off, and credits will no longer be purchasable. Credits balances will be converted into in-game resources, and all cosmetics are free.

Aside from a short hotfix arriving on Tuesday, support for the game will discontinue on September 30th. After that digital purchases will no longer be available and the title will be delisted from digital storefronts like Steam.

All single-player content will continue to be playable after support ends, and multiplayer will also remain available as servers stay online – but if issues occur from that point, players are on their own.

As a thank-you to players, a special Founder’s Gift of Iron Man’s ‘Variable Threat Response Battle Suit’ will be automatically granted to any player who has earned at least one Trophy/Achievement before April 1st.
