“Deadpool & Wolverine” co-writer and “Marvel Zombies” creator Zeb Wells has reportedly boarded a new feature film adaptation of the iconic sci-fi character “Buck Rogers”.
Legendary announced the project back in 2020 with ambitious plans for a franchise that would span a feature film, live-action series and anime series.
It’s not clear how much of that plan remains intact, with only the film mentioned today.
Originating in the 1920s, the character is a World War I veteran who falls into suspended animation in an accident. He awakens five centuries into the future where he’s enlisted to help fight a war between several gangs in what was once America.
The property has existed in literary form of some kind for a century, inspiring many imitators from Flash Gordon to Looney Tunes’ Duck Dodgers, but is best remembered for the short-lived NBC live-action sci-fi series “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” in 1979. That version starred Gil Gerard and Erin Gray.
George Clooney was previously circling the property back in 2021, though that no longer seems to be the case.
