Marvel has reportedly terminated overall deals with two of its TV showrunners – The Punisher’s Steve Lightfoot and Helstrom’s Paul Zbyszewski – in what is said to be some of the first force majeure cases amidst the industry-wide production shutdown and newfound economic uncertainty.
“The Punisher” was cancelled a year ago after a two season run, while “Helstrom” was able to wrap physical production before the industry-wide shutdown. Zbyszewski is expected to wrap up postproduction work on the latter.
The decision arrives as it’s anticipated studios of all sizes will soon invoke the force majeure clause in multiple pacts – allowing them to sever various overall producing deals. The industry was already preparing for this due to the ongoing negotiations with the Writers Guild.
