Disney Pictures has announced that the release plans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films have all been pushed back by several months.
The first key change is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” which was to open March 25th, 2022 but will now arrive about six weeks later on May 6th, 2022.
That push has had a knock-on effect with every subsequent film essentially going back by one ‘slot’ originally marked out for the next Marvel film.
In addition two ‘untitled’ Marvel films have been pulled from the slate. The new release schedule is as follows:
May 6th, 2022: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”
July 8th, 2022: “Thor: Love and Thunder”
November 11th, 2022: “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
February 17th, 2023: “The Marvels”
May 5th, 2023: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
July 28th, 2023: “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”
November 3rd, 2023: untitled Marvel film (possibly “Blade”?)
In essence, Marvel Studios seems to be pulling back to three MCU films for next year rather than trying to squeeze out four. Even so, next year also have both Sony’s “Morbius” and the “Spider-Verse” sequel due out (with Sony likely to have “Kraven the Hunter” for 2023).
