Marvel: Phase 5 Is About The ‘Big Picture’

This week’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is quick to point out what that shift means for the overall slate of films.

Speaking to Marvel.com at the ‘Quantumania’ premiere last week, Feige was asked about how he felt about the just finished fourth phase which ran from “Black Widow” to “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and has drawn complaints about seemingly to be disjointed and lacking a strong central throughline.

Feige makes comparisons to Marvel’s first phase (“Iron Man” to “The Avengers” and how that phase was all about incorporating new characters and sub-genres they hadn’t dabbled in before.

With Phase 5 though, now comes tying a fairly loosely connected number of films into an overarching story:

“We wanted the Infinity Saga to feel complete after Endgame and Far From Home. But Phase 4, as I’ve said, was all about experimentation, introduction, and reintroduction. And we took our time to have fun, and play in genres we hadn’t played in before, and do all sorts of fun things with these characters.

Kicking off Phase 5, we’ll continue that. Like in the Infinity Saga, there will be stand-alone films within the next two phases. But it really is, as you will certainly see in Quantumania, heading towards the very, very big picture. And as we’ve already announced, that big picture is the Multiverse Saga in a very, very big way.”

Phase 5 of the MCU will run for six films and seven series over the next year-and-a-half, including films;ole”Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “The Marvels,” “Blade,” “Thunderbolts” and shows like “Loki,” “Ironheart,” “Secret Invasion,” “Daredevil: Born Again”.
