Disney+ has launched “MPower,” a new four-episode docuseries focusing on the most inspirational women heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and timed to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The legacies of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), and the women of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther franchises are explored via a blend of archival footage, interviews, and animation.
All four stand-alone episodes are streaming now and unpack the journeys of these characters from their birth in Marvel Comics to the MCU and beyond. It looks at how their success have impacted fans around the world.
Zoe Saldana serves as an executive producer on the series and in a statement says: “MPower is a tribute to women’s representation and empowerment. We’re enthused to have the involvement of a diverse group of women whose voices and stories will serve as a source of inspiration. Our hope is that this series will ignite meaningful conversations and drive real change towards a more equal and inclusive world.” Cisely and Mariel Saldana also executive produce.
Executive Producer Mark Herzog says: “We’re excited to help illuminate the myriad, powerful stories of women in the MCU. We sincerely hope that the series will empower girls and women all over the world to be their authentic selves in their lives and in their careers.”
The series comes ahead of “The Marvels” which will fly into theaters in November and stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris in the lead roles.
