With most of the other studios having ditched this Summer for moviegoing and rescheduling various films into next year, Disney Pictures is now doing the same for its slate.
Heat Vision reports that the Mouse House has made sweeping changes to its theatrical release calendar for the next two years amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As reported earlier, one big decision has been to debut “Artemis Fowl” directly on Disney+ rather than going with their original late May theatrical release. “French Dispatch” is also being pushed to October.
Next, their live-action “Mulan,” originally set for March, will now open on the July 24th weekend. Disney had set its “Jungle Cruise” film for that July 24th weekend but has now pushed that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt-led film back by a full year to July 30th 2021.
Then there’s the old Fox titles. The Ryan Reynolds-led “Free Guy” is being pushed from July 3rd to December 11th, while “Bob’s Burgers” is being delayed from July 17th to April 9th 2021. Both “West Side Story” and “The Last Duel” remain on track for their December releases.
Other delayed titles like “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” “Antlers,” “Woman in the Window” and “The New Mutants” all remain undated.
Finally, Marvel is moving all its films down by one slot each with “Black Widow” taking the “Eternals” slot, “Eternals” taking the “Shang-Chi” slot and so forth. The Marvel slate is now:
November 6th 2020: “Black Widow”
February 12th 2021: “Eternals”
May 7th 2021: “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Rings”
November 5th 2021: “Doctor Strange 2”
February 18th 2022: “Thor: Love And Thunder”
May 6th 2022: “Black Panther 2”
July 8th 2022: “Captain Marvel 2”
Disney insiders add that because of the ongoing uncertainty, release dates could be shifted forward and back again if needed.
