“Skyscraper” and “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” director Rawson Marshall Thurber has been hired to direct the film adaptation of the Ubisoft video game series “The Division” for Netflix.
The story is set in the near future where a pandemic virus has spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions.
By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos and so a group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains. Marshall will co-write the script with Ellen Shanman
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have long been attached to star and produce the film and remain so. The project originally had “Deadpool 2” and “Hobbs & Shaw” helmer David Leitch attached to direct. He has since stepped down due to scheduling conflicts with the currently shooting “Bullet Train” among other things, though remains onboard as producer.
Thurber most recently directed “Red Notice” for Netflix, that film stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds.
