The latest Liam Neeson action thriller “The Marksman” topped the quiet Martin Luther King Day box-office weekend with an estimated four-day opening of $3.7 million.
Robert Lorenz helms “The Marksman” which is about an Arizona rancher and former Marine who rescues a young boy from the clutches of a Mexican cartel.
That box-office amount includes $3.2 million for the three-day weekend and enough to knock Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” off the top of the box-office after four weekends at No. 1. It fell to third with “The Croods: The New Age” in second.
The Tom Hanks-led “News of the World” placed fourth with an estimated $1.1 million for the three days and $1.3 million for the four days. “Monster Hunter” was fifth with an estimated four-day gross of $1.1 million.
